Week 8

This week our group met to discuss the issue of 3D material effects. After a lot of discussion and thought, we finally decided on the 3D material effect we wanted and found the corresponding tutorial to study.

Firstly, we discussed and analysed in detail the material effects we wanted. We decided that we wanted a simple, animated 2D effect with texture and shine. At the same time, we had to pay attention to the colour and texture of the material so that it matched our ideas and style. So we ended up with the Lightning Boy Shader, a unified material.

Next, we found some relevant tutorials to study. In the process of learning, we encountered some difficulties, such as how to adjust and modify the materials according to our requirements, how to use the various material maps and textures, etc. However, with a lot of hard work and cooperation we eventually overcame these difficulties and managed to acquire some new skills and knowledge.

Overall, this week we have been able to discuss and learn as a group and have managed to identify the 3D textures we want and find the appropriate tutorials to follow. Although we encountered some difficulties during the learning process, we were able to achieve a good result in the end through the hard work and cooperation of our team members. The next step will be to further refine and tweak our material effects to fully prepare for the final product.

Week 7

This week our team has been focusing on character modelling and scene building.
Firstly, let’s talk about character modelling. We analysed and discussed the character set-up drawings in detail. During this process, we encountered some challenges, such as how to express the character’s characteristics and personality, how to ensure the detail and quality of the modelling, etc. Through close collaboration of team members and continuous experimentation and improvement, we finally completed the initial modelling of the character roles to make them look more realistic and three-dimensional.

In addition to the character modelling, we also worked on the set construction. Based on the script setting, we selected suitable scene materials, combined and retouched them, and finally completed a preliminary scene model.
Overall, we made some progress this week, successfully completing the character modelling and scene building. In the process, we encountered some challenges, but through the hard work and cooperation of our team members, we eventually overcame the difficulties and achieved a notable result. In the next step, we will further improve the character roles and scenes and strive to present a high quality work.

Week 6

We’ve had a lot of discussion this week and settled on our storyboard.

Short synopsis
It is the social development process of a race named Pinky
and some phenomena from the perspective of individuals
and society

Story treatment
This work consists of several parts through a long dimensional chronology, these themes are future
humans coming on an expedition to a primitive planet, seeing Jesus at work in a cave, and our
consciousness following the life of the humans Jesus is watching seeing humans leading dogs and
dogs leading people. After seeing the way in which humans reproduce in a perfunctory form. We
see the human being’s claim to self which is the quest for muscle. Finally we return to primitive
society. And find that they had the same worries and consciousness as we do.

Week 5

A visit to the Tate Modern in England is a wonderful experience. Located in the heart of London, this art gallery is a venue that focuses on modern and contemporary art. A visit to the Tate Modern offers an opportunity to view works by modern artists from around the world, including paintings, sculptures, photographs, installations and more.

I saw many impressive works here, some of which even blew my mind. With the wide variety of artworks, this gave me a deeper understanding of modern art.

In addition, the architectural design and presentation within the museum is very unique. The entire gallery is designed in a modern style and the display areas are carefully designed into different forms and spaces, allowing visitors to better immerse themselves in the artworks.

Overall, visiting the Tate Modern was a very rewarding experience. It gave me a deeper insight into modern art and a better understanding of architectural design and display methods. I would highly recommend this gallery and hope that more people will visit it to experience modern art as well.

Job Role 1 – Layout artist (Entry Level)

The layout artist is the person who determines the position of the virtual camera and choreographs the position of the characters and their movements during the course of the shot. Their work begins with the receipt of an animatic (a.k.a. story reel) of a sequence. The layout artist’s job is to lay the groundwork for post-production shots in the visual effects production process.

The layout artist talks to the director to understand the story and the emotion and to determine the language of the shots to be used. They then consider the framing of the shots, the composition, camera angles, camera paths and movements, and the rough lighting for each key scene. This is the job of the layout artist, in other words, to make the virtual camera tell the story better.

Becoming a layout artist requires a number of different skills. The first and most basic is to learn and become proficient in vfx-related programs. He will need to create realistic 3D environment layouts in VFX programs, temporary layouts and prop modelling if necessary, and facilitate collaboration with environment artists. The layout artist gives the characters some poses and rough animations and then animates the cameras to give them nice movement and continuity between shots and scenes. This is a starting point for the animator to work from.

Then as a layout artist, it is also crucial to have a knowledge of photography and be skilled in operating a virtual camera. A layout artist has to have an eye for composition, know how to tell a story through the camera, understand camera and lighting techniques and know how to use them to affect mood. Using the virtual camera, layout artists experiment with different angles and shots to find the best angle and shot for each shot. They have to look at the scale of everything and see if it works in the scene.

Week 4:Character design

The character we created is a tall man with pink skin. There is a muscular version of this character and a tall, thin version, and he is very noticeable and impressive for his height and build.

Firstly, let’s talk about where the idea for this character came from. Originally we wanted to have a sheep-headed, dog-headed figure as our character. However, given the short time we had to create the animation, these complex characters would have been a lot of work for us, so we went with the simple version we have now.

Apart from his external features, this character role. His skin is pink and very bright, which makes him look very different. He is also very tall but skinny. In the muscular version, he has very pronounced muscle lines and looks very powerful. In the lean and tall version, on the other hand, he has a very slender build and a very smooth body line.

Overall, this character role is a very strong and charismatic and humorous character who is very striking in his appearance and personality. Whether it is the muscular version or the lean and tall version, he displays very attractive characteristics that make him hard to forget. If this character role were to be used in a production such as a movie, TV series or game, I am sure he would catch the eye of many viewers and become one of the characters that everyone would love.

We created this character to represent a discussion with people about the inherent prejudice in their vision. We feel that a muscular man is a powerful and brave figure in the general consensus, but he can also be a pink boy who likes to dance!

Week 2-3: Finding and defining themes and styles

I recently attended a group meeting with my team to discuss the style and theme of the short film we wanted to produce. During the discussion, we agreed that the short film we wanted to produce should be a funny and humorous format, from some unique angles, and that we wanted people to be able to watch the piece with a light heart and think about it afterwards.

The first issue we discussed was the style of the short film. We felt that a fun and humorous format would be best suited to the themes we wanted to convey. This style would make the viewer feel happy and relaxed while watching and would also make it easier for them to accept the message we wanted to convey.

We then discussed the theme of the short film. We wanted the piece to come from some unique angles that would pique the viewer’s interest and curiosity. We wanted to make a piece that would relax people, but also make them think about certain aspects of life or the social environment we live in.
We cited a number of themes: fertility, technology, the excesses of human self-awareness, religion and prejudice, and so on.
In the end, we decided to create a humorous, looping animated short film with a unique perspective that would allow the audience to watch the work in a light-hearted way and think about it afterwards. We felt that such a short film would allow people to unwind from their busy lives and would give the audience a taste of our creativity and imagination. We plan to plan and prepare this work carefully in the coming days and hope to produce a great short film that will be well received by our audience.

Here are our notes from the conference, the Chinese of the timeline above is the theme we wanted to express in our short film, they mean in order: technology, social animals, prejudice, religion, is fertility, human self-consciousness overload.

We envisioned a sheep character to convey the hard-working nature of contemporary people. A sheep works constantly in the office, making his wool weave into threads and trading it with his boss for money. But he takes the money to the petrol station at the end of his shift to buy wool for the top of his head.
We would like to use the dandelion to represent the issue of fertility. The dandelion is gently blown up by people and they scatter their seeds. But the modern busy urban society has a low fertility and willingness to have children. Yet in poor countries and regions fertility is like dandelions. If human fertility could be as simple as dandelions sowing seeds, wouldn’t it reduce many of the fears and difficulties people have with fertility.

Week 1:Social Meet up

I recently attended an inter-professional gathering and had a very interesting and fulfilling evening with new friends from different professions. The party was a number of people from different professional fields including 2D animation, 3D animation, game design, and VR.

During the party, we had various activities, such as playing games and chatting. Through these activities, we not only got to know each other better, but also learnt about each other’s expertise and experience. For example, I learnt about animated short films from fellow 2D animation students and others during the chat, which was very interesting and surprising.

More importantly, the gathering also succeeded in creating a team and we plan to work on some meaningful projects together in the future. Through this interdisciplinary gathering, we met many like-minded people who were also very interested in our project and willing to join our team.

Overall, this interdisciplinary gathering was a very rewarding experience. It gave me an insight into the ideas and abilities of students from different professional fields, and it also allowed me to meet some very talented and passionate new people, and together we created a team that will hopefully work on more meaningful projects together in the future.
