Week 4: Behind the Scenes: Roto of Man Running

This week, we learned about roto’s tools. In class, the teacher showed us how to use roto to cut out the running characters in the video. This is a tool that we can use in the future to deduct things and people from videos. This project requires a lot of patience and care to complete.

Week 4: Behind the Scenes: Hot air balloon 2

In this class, I redesigned and made the hot air balloon model, and gave more details to the hot air balloon. The making of rope models and various materials learned in the last class are applied to this model. And I used the bend function in the hot air balloon to add a ladder to it. And the soft selection function was used to adjust the details of the ladder and hot air balloon, so that they are more close and there are indentations.

Week 4: Experimental short film Analysis —— Phosphorus

This week, we’ve looked at abstraction in film, covering two main categories. Formal abstraction: means that abstract elements relate to formal aspects of the medium, such as films where tape is scratched after shooting for effect. Conceptual abstraction: means dealing with the abstraction of concepts and ideas, and while it doesn’t necessarily mess with the form of the medium, it uses the language of the medium to try to portray something conceptual, such as fear or nightmares.

Categorization: I think of it as Formative abstraction. Under the lights of the theater, a speck of dust becomes a genie in classical music, performs a ballet, and eventually becomes a star.

The technical ability to draw the dancing figure at different angles as the camera moved during the scene on stage is exquisite! An aesthetic masterpiece and a beautifully made film with a professional finish. The excellent music, the perfect animation shot and the rhythm of the music blend to let the audience look unforgettable.

Week 3: Behind the Scenes: Nuke basic exercises

This week, our teacher introduced the interface of nuke and its working principle to us after appreciating the homework of last week. Three years ago, I briefly learned the software nuke. But later on, I used After Effects a lot, so I forgot some of nuke’s features. However, after the teacher’s explanation, my memory was awakened and I became proficient quickly. I like the working principle of nuke. The form of arrow flow chart makes the whole project file clear, which is very convenient for us to check.

Week 3: Behind the Scenes: Bottle & Hot air balloon

In-class exercises with a bottle, cups, and liquids in cups. Through this exercise, we learned the EP curve tool drawing method to make wine glasses and wine bottles. And through this exercise, we also learned about different liquids, different materials of glass.

In the second half of the class we started making models of hot air balloons. This model is for use later in nuke’s course. This model is a bit difficult, and there are many adjustments that need to be made. After the class, we added the uv and adjusted some details.

Week 2:Short Video Work: City

Our project this week is to make a short video about what “city” means to us. This is a theme that I have been working on for some time in my personal work, and when I was shooting, I found that the red double-decker bus is very distinctive to London. So I decided to focus on this theme by photographing public Spaces related to transit in London. I also wanted to try to connect it as seamlessly as possible, because moving through a well-designed city is very seamless.

Week 2 Lego

This lesson is a continuation of consolidating knowledge of simple modelling in maya. By learning the basic command operations of the software, I gained a better understanding of the model and a better grasp of the structure. The teacher continued to walk us through the interface menus and learned about each scroll bar.

The most rewarding part of learning to model this LEGO model was the special copy, I realised that I could adjust the parameters by xyz and that ctrl+shift+D (special copy) is a very good tool to use.

And we explored different types of modelling building low and high resolution models
And basic environments. A brief study of UV set-up and texturing.
